1. A bomb threat in a piece of meat?
According to the Austin American Statesman, KLRU television station received notice of a bomb threat. Although bomb threats should be taken seriously, the fact that the bomb was apparently located in a piece of meat makes the story a bit humorous.
2. Minimum wage
According to the New York Times, there are plans to propose raising the minimum wage to $8.50. At 16 years old, my first job only paid $6.00 an hour. That is quite the jump in only five years.
3. Texas science get a C
According to the Austin American Statesman, in 2005 Texas public schools earned a failing grade in science. Now it is given a C. At first glance, I thought a C grade was terrible, only to find out it is about average. It will be interesting to see if science earns a higher grade in the coming years now that STARS and "end of course" exams are now in place.
4. Pinterest
Ask any girl, Pinterest is awesome. It is a great way to waste two hours without looking away from the computer screen. It is no surprise it is rapidly growing. An article in ReadWriteWeb explains how the website avoids violating copyright laws by using a provision in the Internet Service Providers Act.
5. Facebook timeline
While I usually am not a fan of the constant changes Facebook makes, I am in love with the new timeline. The banner picture adds a whole new dimension to the page, and it makes it so much easier to revisit old posts from previous years. Bravo, Facebook.
